PARSONS X BETAWORKS

Event Overview

The concepts and attributional constructs commonly associated with luxury fashion are founded on the dated structures conceived at the turn of the Industrial Revolution, leading to detrimental narratives and outdated business practices.

Co-hosted by Parsons School of Design, an institution committed to creative strategies to solve the most pressing social issues, and Betaworks Studios, this event welcomes presentations by a new breed of fashion brands including Abrima Erwiah, founder of Studio 189, Ammar Belal, founder of ONE432 and Rob Smith, Founder of The Phluid Project, who are challenging and redefining luxury and making the industry more relevant. This is through brand activism, social enterprise and sustainability, recreating material, production and sourcing systems, while challenging boundaries and discourse on race, gender and social justice.
